|
|
Finally I got one of these! The final frontier!
Been thinking about this kit on-off for the last couple of years, wondering: do I have the skills needed to build one of these?
I will never know if I never try!!!!!
Updates (and cries for help, general frustration, panic, times of joy etc.) will follow!
I'm aiming for the "as delivered to the production" look.
Here it is, neat and ready to go on the project tray...

Ahh, so this is the build you mentioned over in my thread. Cool to see the very beginning of your journey all laid out. Best of luck to you!

I just finished building a Coyle kit, absolutely a great time and you're left with a very high quality replica. |

Try shooting Rich an email, maybe he can do something for you? Thing is they sell out in no time, when there's a run.... and I can understand why! _________________ Monsieur, azonnal kövessen engem bitte |

I would recommend dry graphite spray to get the correct patina finish on the metal components, if you are going for a screen accurate worn look. Worked great on mine. |

https://www.amazon.com/CRC-Graphite-Lube-Aerosol-Black/dp/B007I9XUD0
Any hardware store should have it.
I am waiting on my blaster to arrive in the mail (finished it on vacation, shipped it back to avoid airline issues/theft). When it does I will post up here for you to see. Maybe you'll like it,maybe not. |

Thanks for the link! Will it darken the metal?
Would love to see your blaster!

I'm looking forward to see your progress.
I have a Coyle that I've yet to work on myself.
Some of the castings are a little more pitted than I might expect, but your build will show how they smooth out. |

Contact me at racprops@cox.net and tell me when you got your kit and send pictures of the problems.
Depending on where and how bad the pitting is I may swap them out for better parts.
NOTE Any part that will be painted black, I feel can be fixed easily with bondo, and fine fillers.
And other parts can 90% of the time be sanded out.

They are the hardest to cast.
And the do take a lot of sanding to clean up.
IF your unable to get a fair clean up let me know.
I will work to do a exchange or can solder in the spots if needed.
OR if you able to do some I can mail you some pieces of the same metal for soldering up some of the flaws.
You will need some flux as well. I cannot send that.
But if your able to solder than you will know that and have some on hand.

Looking good, I have never used the Graphite spray but it looks like it does a great job.
The only thing I would do differently is I wouldn't use the steel wool because it scratches the finish. I would apply the graphite and then use a leather strap to rub off the metal at the edges - similar to real wear and tear.
Keep up the great work. _________________
