ADDITION.... Le Mat project is on hold but a viable p90 has popped up.
Love everything about this new series and the Ed Harris Le Mat is right up my collections address but I have to be selective with additions because they are permanent.
Wanted to do as much research as possible and picked up a few differences between the screen used Le Mat and the commonly available Denix replica.
First thing was the trigger guard is different on the Denix and the side screw is larger on the screen used.
They have also changed the entire firing chamber set up to take regular ammo, breaking it down into two separate parts.
The Denix comes in two different models, silver and black, thinking the silver one would be better to match the screen used and then blacken.
Any thoughts or ideas most welcome.
The oldest Host in the park is wearing a Josie Wales belt buckle, wonder if that means something?

On the screen used, there is a spur extending from the bottom of the trigger guard. Also, the cylinder appears to be slightly fluted whereas the Denix models are smooth. There is also a "button" on the Denix forward of the trigger guard (on the removable section?) For all practical purposes though, I would consider the Denix an acceptable substitute. |

The denix gun is based on a different model LeMat than what they use in the show.
The show uses a Cavalry model with a cartridge conversion kit. It's an entirely new cylinder setup with spring loaded firing pins for each chamber where there was once nipples for caps to be loaded on.
It seems they also modified it to take shot shells. This is very close to how they modified the gun for Firefly, without the external bits and pieces obviously.
To my knowledge there are no commercially available kits. I think there are some gunsmiths who offer the service of cartridge conversion for the lemat, but it's very expensive work. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

Thanks for the info guy`s.
Seem`s the denix is a pretty workable match. I`d be happy to cut off the percussion cap nipples and add a little something to make the visible cylinder fairly close to the screen used.
A custom trigger guard is not a stretch and the "Button" looks like a clean slice off.
Noticed that the capping rod is slightly longer on the original as well, could just add a similar piece of metal to it without replacing or cutting anything.
Any advice on blackening the silver model? Is it possible? _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

The spur on the trigger guard isn't custom. As Noeland said it's a different model.
The model with the trigger guard spur is the LeMat Cavalry.
You can get the trigger guard as a spare part for the Pietta repro.

I meant a custom made guard for me but if repro`s are available that's great news, thanks Karl.
Not sure if the finish/metal on the denix is capable of being blackened, anyone been down that path before? _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

You know, I think a few people (maybe even coyle) sell pewter castings and resin castings of the calvalry trigger guard /cylinders for Jayne Cobb conversion kits for the denix. Probably your best bet when making a Man in Black gun.
I have never blackened pewter, I think most folks just paint the silver denix. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

Pure gold, many thanks.
I`ve never seen Firefly, seen Serenity but not the series. Sy Fy have it on here now so will check it out. Seen it referenced a few times doing the Le Mat research but didn't follow it up.
Found where to get factory repro`s of the trigger guard, lanyard ring, lanyard base and ramrod but if Rich has the cylinder it will be a big bonus. Will send him a PM.
Ahh, pewter of course. Should find some good technique info right here in the blaster forum. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

If someone has the ability or can follow it up, very hard from my end, what about a two piece custom made top section based on the denix cylinder measurements.
Or a full three piece custom set up.
I`m just looking for a basic display set up so the top/crown part would be the most elaborate, no holes needed on the interior etc but if a full version was possible
to allow for loading dummy rounds and shotgun shell case would also be cool. Metal version, 3D printed or resin casting? Whatever works best. Have provided a technical drawing.
Just throwin it out there.

Anyone spotted a Colt Walker yet? Would have thought Delores would have one. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

There`s been a water gel ball shooting version available down here for a while but only seen them on ebay and they aren't cheap. Found a hobby store that had one left for $80 and jumped on it.
Had a toy tac light already and fits ok but will eventually get what I think is the screen accurate version. I'm hoping that the fake bullet mags for airsoft versions will fit this model.
Overall its a great replica of the original but will need a lot of preparation work to smooth out the imperfections before it gets a couple of coats of Italian Red. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

Lots of sanding to smooth out the gritty surface of the hard plastic and lots of filling to level off the bumps then more sanding. Had to cut out and replace the front face section and also the
barrel end. The dummy mag just needed around 5 mm taken off the end to fit. Going to give the old Tommy Lee Jones Glock 17 replica a fantasy DELOS makeover.

Thanks J.
Was a little worried when I hit it with the red paint, very bright and not kind to the surface but after a coat of satin clear came up better than I could have hoped for.
Is anyone making the tri fold smart pads?
Just a static one with a super resolution printed screen face would be cool but a backlit version would be cooler. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |
