Here is my first attempt at making a Gaff ID based on the Worldcon ones. I used some of the previously posted free paper prop IDs on the RPF as a base, so if you recognise your work please speak up.

I think the photo needs alot of work to convince me it's Gaff and not Edward James Olmos Wink

for a start try desaturating his eye colour as it's too vibrant. Maybe replace his clothes with some images of gaffs clothes if you can find the right shot.

I have already done another version with the new eye color that is more grey than blue. I am thinking about darkening his clothes to make them more official police. The whole thing was done in a couple of hours, and I am still a bit of a novice in Photoshop.

I want it to look different, but still Gaff. It is a testament to EJO's acting that you can tell which character he is without the garb to sell it. It is impossible to photoshop Gaff's scowl. Smile

One of the things I tried to avoid though is looking like it was taken directly from the movie. Most peoples IDs do not look that much like them. It looking a bit more like EJO is okay with my concept.

Great idea!....like to see it when it's finished ,I am assuming though you will fog parts of it to stop the mass reproduction...but COOL idea!

Where did you get "Edward Gaffney" from?

Is it from DADOES? It's been ages since I read it and I seem to have forgotten lots of stuff...I forgot the UN agency that the Blade Runner Unit actually works under is the World Police Organization, for one thing.

I've always thought Gaff would have a Latino or Latino-like first name. Of course, I've been wrong before.

Either way, that's kewl. Ganked the JPG for future use.

Can Gaff have a tie for this? I don't think he would dress down for a photo op!
Also, can that photo back-ground be darker?
The stark clean white just doesn't feel right for the BR World...
Otherwise it looks great to me Andy!
Can you talk a bit about the meaning of the various symbols on the I.D. and your choice to use which ones? I've seen a number of different symbols but never understood how they were decided on.

I like the furrowed brow, The lopsided scowl doesn't seem right though. A Tie is a good idea though. It does almost seem like he is smiling in the original picture though. I used the best photo I could find for an ID. I also copied the other actual Worldcon ID for the color of the background, to keep it as cannon as possible. I also don't really care if people try to make money off of them. I have no plans to, but would prefer if somebody asks first. I most likely will not post the final though without a watermark. I would gladly email the files though to regulars who ask for them.

By the way the name is because of a friend who goes by Gaff and EJO's real name as well as my boss who is Peruvian. Gaff is supposed to be mixed as he speaks Hungarian and has blue eyes. Gaffney is also a common surname.

Andy,
I would love those files! Though I don't intend any money making venture with them.
I would also still love to know more about the various symbols...

Yeah, that's a tough one, EJO doesn't look like Gaff. He had makeup on to change his skin color, and his facial hair wasn't quite the same (I know, stating the obvious)

OK, here is my pass through photoshop. I just tried to bring the photo out by adjusting the brightness and contrast until it looked good, and then I did some hair dying to darken it to black, and I color balanced it a bit too.

Whatcha think?

For those who have yet to see the real thing, Courtesy of Karl Tate

The head is in a different proportion to the Deckard ID (as far as I can tell)...it is also pretty sloppily pasted onto the ID. My guess from the fact that the guy is an extra pretty much. At least I have yet to spot him.

Download the entire Tate collection of worldcon BR prop photos here...
