I sculpted this a while ago. It's a one-piece wallet sized version of the force badge, a little bigger than eltees wallet badge, measures around the same dimensions as an LAPD badge.

I accidently glued the picture frame on incorrectly and in a frustrated attempt at pulling it off, the entire badge crumbled to pieces!! So it just missed the trash can and stayed in a box ever since.
Though I recently dug out the pieces and restored the badge to its former glory:

and preped for the silicone mold:

I'm going to attempt to make the mold tomorrow. Watch this space for a progress report Smile

Complete disaster!! Shocked

I was recomended to use a silicone thinner called "slacker". Though it actually made the silicone compound more dense and dry quicker!

I figured I'd pour it on anyway, but it was so thick I got air bubbles all over the place and the remander silicone in the cup started to dry out at rapid speed, so I had to just pore the whole thing on in one go which I cant imagine is good.

This is my second attempt at the silicone mold. I probably spent around £60 on silicone and the thinner, which I should have just spent getting a pro to make the mold for me Rolling Eyes

well the mold is dry, but way too many bubbles got in, so in the bin with that one.

I just found out I bought my dragonskin silicone a year ago! and read that it gets thicker with age, so that could be the problem.

I'll try one more attempt as I still got some silicone to burn.

cheers guys!

A quick update: I'm looking into getting this profesionaly cast. So will let you know how I get on with that.

I'm also pretty sure I'll be doing a wallet run of my own which includes this badge, so stay tuned for that Smile

Hey guys, now I've taken a break from the blaster project I'm gonna re-ressurrect making a cast of this badge.

Though from my experience with melting metal it might be really tricky to cast all the fine details as the metal hardens extreemly fast before it can get into all the little nooks and crannies.

Is it possible to heat/warm the mold up so that the metal doesn't harden so quickly?

I thought I'd resurrect this thread as I'm thinking of working on a new version of the badge. A work colleague has built her own 3d printer so I made up a model last night in 3d and will test getting it printed out. I say test as I'm not sure how great the quality will be, but would be pretty cool never the less.

This model is a more idealized version as everything is more aligned. averaged and symmetrical than the cast badges. Still needs a bit of tweaking. Ideally I would like to make a full size one and a wallet one for now. I'd still really like to get them cast into metal, though would need to find a good caster for that.

Fantastic work!! Can't wait to see the final product! Also, if you ever do a run, I'd be very happy with a resin casting. Smile

Cheers guys Smile will hopefully have this printed on Wednesday so might have some images in the week. I'm also keen to do a full size police version. Does anyone know the dimensions of the original?
