A late reply, but thanks for your comment Phil.

LearnByMaking was asking about my build so I thought I'd do an update.

I haven't really done anything since my last big post. I made the decision to stop. It was taking up too much of my time again. Also I was coming to the end of a job and I wouldn't have access to machinery to do it justice.

However I did make a bit more progress before I stopped.

First off I blocked out the top of the main housing in Jelutong.

It's a bit rough and ready but it was just to add to the mock up to see how big it was looking overall.

I think I blocked in a few more details.

I made a start on mapping out the head and arm in simple forms.

Here nestled into its resting place.

I hope to return to it all in the not too distant future. I think I made a decision that a good width for the machine would be about 415 mm wide.

One of the main reasons I stopped was the monitor issues. I couldn't face buying mini TV's that may or may not be the right size. But in time I will have to face this dilemma.

OOOHH YES Fred!!! Shocked Those are my drawings...nah, just kidding folks

Great pics Fred and TFS with us! These seems very close to my research and contact with the people who had built that prop (if these are genuine of course).
Fantastic views of the front/rear of the eye portion of the prop.
More pieces to complete the puzzle!

Oooops, my bad, thought you were talking about the fact it was drawn on squared paper.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Just how big are those squares?!?!?!

Standard size here would probably be 5x5 mm...

Looks like the squares are aprox 1/8 inch... If these drawings are 1:1 the VK is a little over 36 cm wide and 12 cm tall... or? I need to print out the drawings and draw in the unclear lines....

Buch, an eighth of an inch was my initial guess.

But like you say the lines are so unclear.

At 1/8" squares I get a width of 378mm approx.

I tried another option which was to scale the 'masking tape' on the shot with
the drawings and photographs.

I tried 3 widths of tape.

1/2"

5/8"

3/8"

5/8" yielded the closest for me. Bringing the unit in at
About 425mm.

This is in line with the sizes of the Tom Southwell graphics!

Beat me to it! My latest measurements suggest 378mm wide at 1/8" squares too...

If the tape is 5/8", does that correspond with the 1/8" squares? Does that even make sense?

I've been out of the loop... Tom Southwell graphics? The pictures of the VK in the reference thread? Forgive my ignorance here.

Yes, Tom provided us with the graphics and the size...helped me tremendously with my last V.K. Now, we have to be certain about those lines!
I'll say that, according to Mike Fink, it was around the 43 cm mark. Then again, he wasn't a 100% certain Wink .
I think that Tom's graphics were the closest we've been to that magic number.

No Buch the squares were no longer 1/8" square.

The front VK graphic is about 38mm wide by 25mm tall.

Joberg'a 430mm width is the maximum width I think.

I think you could come down to 415mm at a push!

Don't forget these Propstore photos aren't square on and have lens distortion.

Maybe 425 mm is the best compromise!
