Both replicas were designed to have sound, which is why they have the circuit boards and speakers in the lower section. The sound clips were supposed to be triggered by either pointing an IR remote (TV remote) at it or by voice recognition.

Unfortunately I can't make the sound feature work reliably now, so I left it out of the description. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work, everything seems clean and intact. SAL makes intermittent comments, but I can't get HAL to say anything. He's probably still pissed about that whole "disconnection" thing...
