Thanks Karl! I wish the grips were more exciting, but I really like the upper half!

Adam Savage took the photos, so if he can't convince them, nobody can!

I see two distinctly different designs leaving me with the impression that there will be more than one "new" blaster..

I like that Luv's gun has details reminiscent of the sight-rod & bolt lever, although I hope the hero has more variety of materials.

Gosling's gun is super cheesy looking. Like a water gun. That trigger guard is so clunky and poorly designed and integrated. so many elements on this thing kill the illusion of it being a real firearm. And it looks and feels worse in your hand.

Not basing it off or building on a real firearm was not a wise choice. A major letdown and unworthy successor to one of the most famous Sci Fi guns ever made.

Couldn't agree more. What you said is precisely what I felt when I saw it a couple of months back....

I like the look of Luv's gun, except for the grip's detail & design.

I have absolutely zero feels about this new blaster (Gosling's).

The design is clumsy and boring, there are no tiny parts to research and look for for hours and hours at eBay, building one would only require a 3-D file... there's nothing about this prop of what makes this hobby great...

Even though I saw it in person I can only add that K's grip seems to have the carbon fiber "weave" pattern. I don't think it's just paint but think it's probably really molded from carbon fiber. Like we see in clear coated bicycle frames sometimes.

Honestly I'm glad I got to see these before the film is released. I can get over this disappointment now, and let these grow on me some. I don't like them. Maybe after seeing the film and seeing how the fit into the whole, I will.

I've made my feelings pretty vocal on the new guns elsewhere, and I'm afraid it's indicative of the film's design overall. Gray, more gray, with some dark gray. Very tech forward. Much too clean. Pretty much everything the original film was not. Things looks new and plastic. Gray plastic.

The new blasters are both 3D printed, no real gun parts. LUV's blaster has a nod to the bolt handle (they are upside down, and one is just half there, sort of) but my understanding is there is no functionality. That in and of itself is not a deal killer for me.

I was calling Gosling's gun "The muffler gun" for a long time, now it's "the hair curler gun" too. It just doesn't look like a weapon to me. Looks like a taser at best.

Luv's blaster at least looks like something that shoots, but it looks like it shoots nerf darts. Probably gray nerf darts.

I've also mentioned that my complete adoration for Deckard's blaster probably clouds my judgement. But honestly, I don't think that's it. I just wanted BLASTERS. Cool, bad ass blasters that look and feel like something dangerous and powerful. Not ray guns that looks like the director found them from somebody's art station page, or conceptart.org page.

While I do love Denis Villeneuve's work, and I expect I will enjoy his DUNE, I don't like his choice to make BR2049 more realistic, and less of an artistically created world. The new badges, the food containers, the medical kits. It all seems to have a mandate that make me feel like a futurist consulted on the film.

I want to love these guns. But . . .

We'll compare the look of '82 with the look of '17 for sure...lots of gray (as Noeland said)...again, maybe they were confused between "Smoky 82" and "Gray 17"

That being said, I thing Luv's gun is way more interesting than the Ryan's...at least, there's something happening with the levers and the springs at the back.
The only down, for me, are the grips...very "Oblivion" type of guns overall.

IMO the brilliance of the 1982 gun was that it seems to be a plausible evolution of existing guns with some sci-fi enhancements. It actually looks like it could be a functional pistol. This is most apparent if you know and love firearms.

The design of new guns, on the other hand, are more informed by a designer's aesthetic and it shows. They look like anime guns. There's no reason for those bizarre trigger guards. Why are the grips not checkered or stippled? What's the purpose of all that knurling on the barrel unless that part is threaded to come off the receiver? It's certainly not deep enough to call them heat sinks. They're beautifully done pieces, to be sure, but they don't have that palpable air of credibility that makes the 1982 blaster an enduring design to this day.
