There's not a whle lot of space around the blaster, even in the bigger box.
Certainly not enough space for a holster. The box would need to be massive...

I want to keep the box utlitarian and 'in universe', so something Deckard would have in his apartment, rather than a display box for things like the Unicorn, etc.

Every cut out would add to the cost, as I'd need to invest in a different press knife die for each space.

Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. I agree, ‘in universe’ is the way to go.

So excited for this box. Looks great.

How big is the one pictured vs the proposed smaller size.

Hirohawa,

I spent the day yesterday looking at various box sizes available. Hundreds of the bloody things Smile

The only marginally smaller size I could get over all, was considerably taller. This doesn't help us much...

So, it's possible we'll go with the same size as it's 'standard A4' at 13" x 10" x 4.5"

It's a nice size, the blaster doesn't feel cramped. There's a good inch clear all the way round.

There's a natural 'free space' under the bottom of the ammo clip housing, due to the shape of the blaster, which might be a nice place to put a little something, a point of interest for when the case is open.

I'm planning to have a business card sized 'boilerplate' on one of the outside panels, probably one of the sides. We could do something similar inside...

Good lord this is stunning Skin-Job, I have not idea how I missed this thread because this takes the box to another level entirely.

Lovely offering, I will watch this thread with interest.

Highest regards,

MARK

I agree. It will leave options, especially if we go for the flat foam, rather than the eggbox stuff.

Been on to a new supplier, they say they have a very similar size.
Measures 12.5" x 9.5" x 4"

So pretty perfect.
I'm ordering a sample to play with.

We have ten, full steam ahead.

I've ordered one of the new wooden boxes to have a play and see if it's what we want. If so, it'll be the basis of the prototype.

Silverside has the domed badges.

I have samples of the new metal corner protectors en route, a bit more refined than the others but the same shape.

The leather is in stock, a lovely chestnut colour.

I'm working with Replicant13 on the inventory tag/blaster ID graphic to go on the side.
It will be information pertaining to Deckard, as most replicas carry the '5223' serial number.

Can we agree on the following information, and decide how it will appear on the tag?

1. Property of LAPD
2. Sector 8
3. Deckard's name
3. Deckard's badge/police ID number.
4. Blaster serial number
5. Blaster issue date

Any other information needed on there?

really looking forward to see what you come up with. I really liked the old corner protectors, I hope the new ones will look as nice. I liked the grain and colour they had.
keep us posted, this is super exiting

The old corner protectors are really big and heavy, also don't fit as well as the new ones.
The new ones are the same shape same design, but a bit thinner and lighter. The old ones are cast iron, rough cast and very, very expensive.
The new ones are cast, but are solid brass. I'll silver plate them so they're white metal, to better match the chrome Steyr badge.

Now, we should talk about closure of the case.
On the first one, I had it close by two NATO spec snaps, which joined the strap on the case to the strap on the lid.

Someone has already mentioned locking the box, as they plan to put a shooter in it.

I propose we have a staple loop, set horizontally on the front of the bottom part of the case. An oblong horizontal slot can be made in the tongue of the top strap. It can pull down and snug over the staple. The box can be kept closed that way, then a padlock can be put through the staple securing the strap if required.

Thoughts everyone?

Must confess, I love the snaps on your original box. I'd prefer this as the default design.

yeah, the thing is that now that you showed that box, I'm afraid we are always going to say that we wanted what you showed Embarassed

for the corners, I really liked the old ones again but I totaly get the price issue. (if you happen to have a link to those, i would be curious to see the listing and price)
now, for the new corners, I think the brass ones are a good idea, however, I'm not sure making them shinny will look nice. maybe blacked brass would look great.
that reminds me of that box I found yesterday which has a really nice old wood and the same corners as your box, but they are aged brass:
