Given the interest in the photos and questions asked in other threads, I thought I'd post this in-progress picture of Rachel's photo.

This is such a special part of the film for me that I want to get it right.

However, the raw material is a problem. You have to remember that this is a 1980's effects shot, so the film has been through an optical printer at least once creating a double layer of film grain. It has also been colour graded after, like the rest of the film.

The sequence where the whole photo is visible also suffers from motion blur AND the photo is curled up.

(forgive the watermarks)

I have colour corrected the material and obliterated the grain. I have pieced together elements from several frames. I have painted some details from scratch over the fuzzy-felt original.

There's still a load to do. I have a high res capture of the text on the back corner, as well. If only I could read the handwriting!

The note on the back reads "Your boyfriend is a replicant. Love, Auntie Zelda."

Seriously though, that is coming along brilliantly. Well done. And thanks for showing us the progress.

Top notch work Kevin! Very Happy

here's my attempt:

credit goes to SiR-ROUND for the great captures.

I've stretched it to fit your size as I think you got the dimensions more close than I did. I've also added some "anti charles wallace" watermarks Wink

I had to re-create parts of the photo and clean it up too. I blended the close up of Rachel and her mum with the screencap to boost the facial and hair details.

here's a close up of how fuzzy it gets:

I've also recreated the back side. Did a bit of a restoration job with the writing.

That's funny, I did the same thing when I made that Sebastian code slate and my Deckard ID. I just recently tried my hand at making some of Leon's photos, not sure how I'd go about incorporating an ACW in there, then again its hard enough to get a decent screencap to work from.

Nice work Beastmaster. I like your idea of enhancing the blurred faces rather than replacing them. It could well end up sitting better with the background.
Losing the overall green cast does tend to desaturate the image I felt.

In case it helps, here's my best capture of the text on the back.

Charles Wallace assured me that he has never heard of PropSummit or PropCircle when I confronted him over my BR apartment key, so we are obviously perfectly safe posting here. <ahem>

Of course now he knows about us since you asked him about it Wink

I noticed CW's auctions have not included any BR related stuff in some while. It might change with the renewed interest in the movie though.

The one thing he doesn't seem to be making is resin kits of any kind. Especially for anybody who pays him money. Laughing

cheers superjedi Smile

Yep I agree about the greens. Theres a nice sharpness in the colours of your image. The colours on mine are kept the same as the film grade which like you said has been processed alot from the original. I'll play around with the contrast and the colours to get it looking a bit more sharper.

I'm still unsure what the dimensions could be, so I'm gonna dig about the family photo collection to get an idea of sizes.

Nice job on the photos, guys.

Yeah, it always bugged me that I couldn't read the handwriting.

Here's a guess or two:

tas 42/7
63 W. Thika Blvd
South Wellton
Waytton

cas - 4217
GBW - Thika Blvd
Sandy Weutou
Wayllon

Good luck,

-Mike

Here's my best caps:

And after scrutinizing the text (every couple of months) for hours on end, I believe that the text reads:

095-4217
63 W. Thika Blvd
South Wenton
Waytton

looks like the Waytton(or Waylton which also sounds like Wellton, which could be the middle name) is crossed out at the bottom, making the letters look like T's and E's. I agree with the number being a phone number with 7 digits. Does any body have a screen cap handy or know the number that Deckard dials on the vid phone to call Racheal. In the scripts she supposedly leaves her number for him in the scene. I am pretty sure the first three digits he dialed are 555 though. Smile I doubt the numbers match though.

Hmm, I don't think the last word is "crossed out", I think it's the tail of the 'y' being circled back to serve as the cross for the 't's. *shrugs*

Anyway, you're right, the numbers don't match:

I'm not totally convinced by 095 and I thought it was followed by 42/7

That "1" looks like it has been written at a different angle to the rest of the numbers. However, I have no idea what it would be. A telephone number makes sense. Since this is Rachel's memory photo, shouldn't the details relate to her childhood? If I had my current address written on the photos in my wallet they would all have been crossed out several times!
Very Happy

I feel pretty confident that it is supposed to be a Phone number. In all of the scripts she gives him her phone number at this time ( http://brmovie.com/Downloads/Docs/BR_Scripts.htm ). He also looks at the picture when he calls her on the vidphone. I can imagine them trying to intentionaly put the number in so it can't be read easily and still is seen as a phone number by the audience. I still don't understand why they would have added the address though. I can see her quickly jotting down her number, but not wanting to stick around enough to add her whole address though. It is almost a plot hole.

I hadn't picked up on the idea that she'd added her details to the photo when she left.
I remember her handing it to Deckard as evidence that she was human with real memories and a family. I don't remember her having back to write on.

Of course, perhaps intelligent people didn't need it spelled out for them (the plot, that is, not the writing Very Happy )

she probably intended to give deckard the photo and wrote her number and address on the back incase deckard wanted to contact her in reguards to questioning it.

on to the back of the photo I'm guessing the printed lettering is "This paper manufactured by kodak"? I only guess this as I have an old photo at home with the same pattern as the markings.

I did yet another rendition of the photo in my lunchtime Rolling Eyes This time I've taken out alot of the fuzzy areas and merged recreated areas such as the background, chair, her foot! flower pot, beams etc. that looked too fuzzy. I also did a pass on the colours induvidualy.

The only problem is that I'll probably have to adjust it again for the printout as printers never truly give you what you see on screen Sad
