Joberg,
What a fantastic job on recreating the VK machine , it's a testament to your modelling skills , but as you say in your posts, it's all a bit 'static' Logitec do a webcam that 'locks on' to the face a little dudicious programming, a few electronics and you could connect the output to a small lcd screen/monitor re focussing it could quite easily lock on to the eye of the subject , the bellows and arm can be easily servo controlled all initialted bu their respective illluminated switch the led displays and other flasing lights , dials etc would be releatively easy to achieve , and if you ever decide to make and build more - put me down for one !!

Thanks guys When you include electronics, your build is a little bit different in terms of logistics...I hope that one day?..Now on with my new project, shouldn't take more than 3 months lol

Thanks guys for the positive feedback We have to be carefull in terms of colours; what looks good on camera, looks sometimes bizarre in real life.
I just finished the VK manual with the questions that Neil had posted a while ago (thanks Neil) and some other pics of the machine...

Count me in for whatever, and if you want anything posted to Bladezone let me know. It would make a terrific article.

What did you use for the top of the arm?? The two black pieces??

Well, that's it...apart from the VK logo missing from the arm (which I'll be doing in a few days) it's done...and since there wasn't that much pics and details; I think it's not too bad lookin'.

Birdie is working on a shell.

I think the other main piece that would be hardest to make is the arm???

Wow! Great work joberg! Cool

Now all we gotta do is find that mystery case to put it in!

Thanks guys for the positive feedback; it's fun to see comments months after the first unveiling of the machine .
As I said before, the shell and the boxes for the small screens should be simple enough to reproduce, maybe a vacu-form? The real challenge is, of course, the arm: lots of little piece for the pullies, the cable, the eye itself, etc...
Maybe somebody could start something, since my agenda is full these days with various projects and what not...

If it's any help with the details, here's a picture of Mike Fink building the real one way back when.

Mike won the 1997 VFX Oscar for Golden Compass.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH Shocked Shocked Shocked
...anyway, thanks Bwood for sharing that pic with everybody; I don't know if I'll have to transform my V.K. to get as close as possible from that pic, or burn it with the full honour it deserves Crying or Very sad

Back to the drawing board! Btw, the colours of the machine is different on the small monitors than in the movie (one black stripe and the rest silver), here the monitors are all black.

No way man, yours is just a different version, probably Holdens, just like there are different versions of the phon.
Awesome pic Bwood, its amazing just how much new stuff turns up and will hopefully turn up in the future.

Same as Tim, Joberg... improvement is part of the game we're all playing, here... Can't wait to see your next version of the VK !!! (this pic is too good to be true, thanks again Bwood for posting it here !)
