I could not agree more and it has been a long while since I watched Blade Runner. I have only been able to get through the first 20 minutes of the new DVD then something always comes up.

We are all here to contribute and learn, and possibly make a few friends along the way. We are a community that celebrates a film and all those fun props that came from that film. In short, we each have a passion for this and that is why we are here.

Tonight is movie night!

Tom

As i said , Probably I am a big ignorant of the Blaster gun. But nobody replied to my message: why we don't have to go to the owner of the gun and sks to permit to us to scan the Blasetr partas? This would be a crazy attempt? I Iam not saying I have to makle those parts, but it can be made form Coyle, or others. Why you have not the behave to try this way? why not? We all have to saty under a ghosts improvements?

It's not lying. It's called changing his mind. People do that occasionally.

Lying is like when a prop maker tells the prop world that he has stopped making Trek Phasers, but somehow manages to find an amazing number of leftover parts for "just one more" to be hawked through a friend who likes to call himself a "broker".

Please stop hi-jacking threads, Rich. It's unseemly, pathetic and rather disrupting.

Siderio,

I am sure someone would probably have a better chance scanning the blaster as opposed to buying it. However, wouldn't it need to be disassembled in order to get a good scan? If that is the case, I cannot imagine it happening.

Otherwise, the Site Rod thread is developing some great leads for id'ing the actual part used.

Some exciting stuff here.

Dear Friend,

I think you didn't scanned a complete model and then disassembdled it with the computer scrambling program.Probably you didn't see the my metal Mals gun? Give me a scan of the complete gun, scan each sides, and I will make an exactly copy of the Worldcon. This mean you don't have to disassembly it for scanning. Just scan it as is.

Sid.

Depends on the type of scan. There is the laser scanning where they rotate the model and the laser maps the surface. I think the problem with that method is there are 'cast shadows' from parts that overlap, and they leave artifacts on the 3D model that have to be cleaned up.

There's also the other method where a sensor on a moving arm is tracked over the surface to create a wireframe both length and width which is then compiled into a 3d mesh.

I think that scanning could give you a pretty accurate model, but I doubt it'd be as accurate as a mold would be.

Isn't there also a system that 'prints' 3d models on some kind of soft foam that then gets hardened using superglue?

Sincerly, I would want have the scan only to know the aproximate measures of the gun and his parts. I am just curious if I am respecting them.
