SO.... after several stupid software crashes (trying to have a right tool to work with a miriad of notes, data, links, pics and so on), I'm back to the writing process.

First, I'll do the first draft in Spanish. Easier for me, obviusly. I'm more confortable using my *second* language, no ofense here. Then, some nice guys will do the translation process to English (UK version? US version? OMG!). Second draft.... But, this is not the main concern. NOW, I need all the contributors in this board do some little work: documentation and hi-res pictures of they projects. Gaff's helmet, VK machine, Marguerite glasses, custom blasters, Boyards, digital files, original screen used.... everything!!!! I need to collect all data available so I may figure the total extension of the book.

I ever thought about 300 pages at least, but this could be cumbersome, or funny, I don't know, depending the amount of data about each prop discussed. I know some will be large (like blaster), others maybe a simple page (shot glasses?), and so on.

I'm in parallel working with financials... Yeah. Book will be produced in print, not digital printing order online. So, it's important to have a general idea of what include and not (not?) to make math. Also, I'm looking for sponsors to make possible the first run. Perhaps 200 books will be enough, but this limits me to a paperback edition. Hardcover requires a minimum of 500 items to be done. I think is not a right number for now (isn't?).

Book will be full color, DIN A4, paperback and bilingual. I cannot do two separate runs for each language. Will be a Taschen-alike book with two languages embedded (same text in both, of course).

SO, if anybody wants to participate with some stuff, any stuff, is welcome to do right now. Timeline? Well, my goal is to close first draft before Xmas.

All ideas and suggestions are welcome as well, as ever!

To avoid bloating this thread, you may contact me in private or directly to my email address: joanfuste (a) gmail.com with a simply subject like "book partner" or so... Very Happy

Thank you!!

Well, I'm back to the forum after several months (??? Crying or Very sad ). My job and other tasks prevents me to be here and make a good use of this magnificent place.

But... let's talk about THE BOOK. Yes. Is still alive. Sometimes sleeping for weeks, sometimes in frenetic activity. I have a ton of information, notes, pictures, objects, references, sites, and blablablablab... you know that.

Seems like it's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum (oh! no! this is Duke Nukem! Very Happy ). Seriously, I'm thinking in a kickstarter project to make the best book of BR I can. It's impossible to do such a book with simply spare time. So I think the best way maybe take it as a full-time project and job.

In these days losing job is not a good choice. I'have a good job for now, not to be rich, but to live without many hassles. Ok. How much work will this book need to see the light? After several years trying to write and organize all the info I have (and more to come, as ever), I think a year of full work is perhaps the best choice.

This will include a bunch of tasks:

- Reading all the data I have for now, including saved posts, web pages, a large bibliography about the movie, industrial design, and so on, and make briefings and references of any piece of info found. Som of this task is already done.

- Contact with all people I can to share their own pieces and collections, to include objects I personally don't have (yet...). As previous, some nice guys are in touch yet!

- Collect all the hi-res pictures form previous people and my own, editing them and setting up for hi-res printing. Book will be a BIG one... 30x30cm or more.

- Write the first draft in English. Proof correction will be made by English people, not me. My brother in law is Scottish, no matter. Very Happy

- Write the first draft in Spanish. This book is bilingual in esence.

- First layout design to have a mockup ready.

- Checking for copyright issues if needed.

- Take full hi-res snapshots from the movie (all versions if needed) and so on. These snaps are a must to show the prop locations.

- Double and triple check all the above for accuracy.

Optionally:

- Trip to LA to visit and take hi-res pictures of locations, including Ennis House, of course.

- 3D printing of some emblematic prop. The 3D model will be made by an experienced graphic designer (contributions are welcome, of course). This could be included with the book or an exclusive for backers. Other nice props could be included as well.

- T-Shirt (some designs in mind).

- Trying to have a good prologue from a very important contributor... (for now, it's only a dream).

Rewards for funding:

- A free copy of the book, signed

- More than a copy

- Book + T-shirt

- Book + prop replica

It's a love project, but love alone don't feed my family! So... Thinking about the real needs to put this in production asap.

Your ideas are welcome!!!

Thank you!
Joan

Welcome back Joan and yes, to have a job in Spain is a God-sent gift for sure! As for copyright, it can be fustrating at times, even taking a few pics of Ennis House in L.A. will demand some kind of permission.
As for the "Forwords" for the book, sure that having someone closely related to the filming/production of the movie could be a + I would be very surprised if anyone would agree to do it (you know, copyright and basic studio rights and so on Confused )
Eager to see it all come together!

I split his post into his own thread in the correct venue. I honestly think he was just hoping to offer his inspiration and work for your project. Eagerness sometimes trumps decorum.
