Hey there all-
Still cranking away on my scratchbuilt airsoft 2019 (with any luck it'll be done by 2019...) Meanwhile I started wondering about the amazing prop fired by Gary Oldman's Zorg character in 5th Element. For those of you who haven't seen it, because I can't imagine anyone here would forget such a weapon:

So...does anyone have any info whatsoever on this prop? I mean, the pulserifle was easier to figure out and lots of the ZF-1 is clearly one-off, but there seems to be an smg in there somewhere...Wild speculation welcome, but if any of you has and particular knowledge I'd love to hear it.

Thanks! Nobody I could find over there is super clear on the ZF-1 deconstruction, although Matt Munson appears to be the guy to go to, so everyone and their lama is haranguing him for info. In the meantime, I was more inspired to replicate the z140, used by the hilarious mugger in one of the early scenes. A couple of airsoft AK-47's, the gaiter from a desk chair, a bit of plexiglass for the "sight", and some spiky things on a big old tube of abs and I think I'm there:

what can I say, I have too much time on my hands...in my mind.....

The actor who portrays this crazy guy is Mathieu Kassovitz, the director of the upcoming Vin Diesel's movie BABYLON A.D.
(BTW, although I'm french, I don't like the 5th Element, I hate Luc Besson's movies... oh, and I don't like Vin Diesel neither !)

Thanks Skinjob-

I was unfamiliar with Kassovitz other than this jumpy robber. Looks like that
Babylon pic might be worth watching on a plane or Netflix...

Did you ever see "Le Dernier Combat?" I know you're not a Besson fan, but I stumbled across it long ago and I always bring it up in Besson conversations. It's practically a student film, but very unique, and worth a rental at least.

Also, while scanning his name on imdb I noticed he executive produced Ong Bak, so he can't be all bad.....

I agree jf, this one is really good... but do you know why ?

Because, although he wasn't credited for it, this movie was co-directed (and the script co-written) by its leading actor, Pierre Jolivet, who later became a well respected director in France. He's famous for his intelligent and sensitive movies... all the contrary of the very selfish and vulgar Mister Besson...

I had no idea. I'll see if I can find any of his pictures in the Netflix; thanks again!

You're welcome !
Well, try "The warrior's brother" (le Frère du Guerrier), it's a movie set in 11th century France... it looks a little like a "medieval western" ("Unforgiven" style), it's not perfect but I like it a lot !
