From the looks of it, this seems to be the MOST accurte version of the gun to date. Infact, it kicks asses from anything that has been offered before.

I could only find 2 minor faults (when compared to the origal gun), but hey, I've been stuying the Blaster for 5 years now.

If anyone know any clue on how to get one, please post. This loos like the almost definitieve blaster. THIS ONE, I'll be getting.

BTW, I agree with this statement about 100%. A few minor things that I might have done differently, but it captures the look and feel of the gun, as well as the details better than anything I have seen so far. I have stated before that there is no "ultimate" replica of the gun, from what I see here this is the closest so far.

The price they are showing so far seems to be around $700 (depending on fluctuating dollar/yen rates). If the price ends up about half that, this will be a "Must Have".

Hi Andy,

I've been comparing pics of this replica to the Worls Con ones and well, it is better than I expected. Regarding those little details, I'd love to hear your comments on them. Here's what I found:

-Right side grip. The upper profile (where the hore for the Bullgog hammer is) should be slightly curved downwars, not straight.

-Buttplate. As Carl noted, the notch for the pinky finger is "bumped" in the middle, making a kind of slight curve up (not a perfect profile machined cut when seen from the side).

-"Laser sight" the diamond patter is ok, but there are no "peaks", the knurled part seems flat. Plus the elongated carved things should be a bit deeper, and the wall between them should be thinner.

-The Stey cocking lever sould fully integrate into the right cylinder cover form. This was well made in the prototype, but in the build up models it seem the lower part of the lever is protuding too much in relation to the cover (this happens in the RAC) I don't know maybe a production glitch or a incorrect assembly.

-The Steyr ammo housing is slightly tilted to the right when seen from the front on the Hero gun. I'm not sure if this blaster as it. Hard to see from the pics. Plus the ammo housing has a mold line on the original, on the lower part along the longitudinal edge.

-The Steyr serial numbers. I thought there where too big at the beginning, but they seem to be the right size. Thought, the semicircle in the 5 and on the 3 is too big. The 2 is ok. The engraved "shield" is too high in relation to the top line of the 5223 and the NPv should be closer to the shield sign (notive the spave between the NPv and the 68 is equal in horizontal lenght as the NPv sign.

-The grip frame. Front part, finger notches. Shouldn't the first one (the one just below the trigger cover) be more less angled in profile.. a bit fattler and rounded?

I'm too nitpicky?. Well yes I am, After spending lots of money on pics, drawing blueprints from hundres of reference pics for film, stunt casts and all, I do know the stuff.

Don't get me wrong. I think that besides this few minor details (hey Im anal) that most people won't be able to notice this is the best blaster yet. My only complain is why the did not casted the Steyr parts in steel? LOL I plan, if I get one, to at least have the bulldog parts casted or machined in metal... future will tell which one (steel?)

andy, Would you mind to share your observations?

Best regards

I noticed a few of those things, but I will have to go back and double check the rest. I also have some more to add later when I have some more computer time, and my list handy. My big observation is in the Steyr lettering. It is pretty clean and square while the real Steyr inscription is tapered at the top with a Vienna Succession style font.

Other than that they got so much right that others still continue to get wrong. Some of them, errors that jump out at me now and scream "FAKE", or in some cases just awkward proportions and angles, along with fit. One of the reasons I am such a big fan of Rick Ross's work because he worked on the aesthetic of the replica, rather than the accuracy, and he still got stuff right the other guys didn't.

I agreee 200%!

Would be looking forward to your comments, when you have them ready. I'll check about the typeface, I didn't noticed that. Yes it does look a tad "tto clean" but again, its the best one yet, those people are amazing artisans.

I read on their site about the lettering, and it said they opted to use the current font to avoid damage to the casting mold from repeated use.

Apparently they tested the casting process, and found that the mold could not withstand repeated casting.

They really researched the WolrdCon hero, , they even came up with unique idea with the grip frame to reduce the weight to recreate the balance of the actual prop when you hold it in your hand.

The obvious reason for the Bulldog frame being non-metal is to avoid government restrictions.

The one cool feature of this Blaster is when you turn on the LEDs, it gradually lights up to simulate "warming up "

I for one wanted this Blaster to be a bit more affordable, but after reading about how they went over board with details and feelingtheir passion to provide us with the best quality, I am saving up for this Christmas.

Like I said before, most of the differences are pretty subtle, almost not worth mentioning. One thing does bother me a little bit though. The top of the back part of the grip frame is a much tighter radius on the Worldcon hero. It even gives it a tapered appearance, and it also blends beautifully into the thin grips at that point. It isn't as pronounced on this version.

A few other things barely worth mentioning are...
-At the inner part of the Steyr barrel/receiver, the circular inset where the Pin retracts into it should be open at the bottom, but the opening is closed.
-The weaver knob is an inaccurate version, The beveled edge is too pronounced and the markings are too tapered.
-The barrel itself seems a bit too bored out and too thin in wall thickness.
-The Steyr clip seems too flat at the bottom.
-The half moon notch on the right side of the Steyr clip housing isn't beveled, but milled out square.

Even still all these things do not seem to detract from it's "beauty", not like so many others I have seen. Even after knowing these things it still looks good, and "right" to me.

According to the blog, they are having legal problems meeting regulations for the gun because of the metal barrel and are redesigning it so that it is not completely hollow. Similar to why Sid had to drill the holes in his barrel I believe. Looks good though.

Actually, they are not having problems with the regulations.
They are just anticipating the restrictions beforehand, and making sure the barrel can't be tampered.

They are making the main frame of the Bulldog as a "snub nose" with cast resin, and attaching a metal barrel extension. (which is not bored out)

This way, the Blaster will be free from the gun restriction, but they wanted to make sure by cuttig a slit in to the barrel.

Sounds like they want to make sure this can be shipped throughout the world. How many people are working on this, and would they be willing to be interviewed here for my blaster history project?

Fascinating, what form is your project taking Andy?
I assume it involves your extensive collection and if it is something you can distribute, please put me down for one.
Tim.

Here is a two year old thread showing the start of the project with some updates.

http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=132&start=0

I have pages and pages of more info, and will going on it as long as I can. So far it is still pretty rough and incomplete, but I hope more info will make itself available as time goes on.

Some more pics went up today,...

I recently picked up the Elfin Knights Blaster Dokuhon (Blaster Magazine 01) they sold at Wondercon, and it has the measurements of their version, and it does seem like they shortened the grip, possibly because of their market having smaller hands. I sure hope the grip on this version(the "Tomenosuke Blaster") is full scale to hero gun. It seems like only 200 are being made

HOLY BLASTERS! Shocked

Again, This blaster is 95% perfect. So accurate over all other blasters that had been released that is a joy to behold.

So glad this beauty is produced finally. I'll be gettin one for sure, correct a few details and be the happiest guy in my neighbourhood.

Andy, could you please share more info on this magazine you name? Could you please point me on wherev to find one

From what I can tell it will be available at the end of the month, but it may be almost sold out already, at least the first run of 50 kits and 50 built ups, and artist proofs. The second run will be 100 buyers choice. I know the price of the kit is over 70,000 yen (about $700).

Not sure if Elfin Knights still has any of the Magazines from Wondercon, but here is their address...
