Posted: Thu Feb 22, 2007 4:21 pm Post subject: Introduction & I'm looking for a BSG Season I Blaster |
|
|
Hello Everyone!
This is my first post here, but I am no stranger to the site. I have been reading with great interest all the things going on around the site and the wonderful props builders here. I have already commissioned the two great builders for a couple of Blasters that I am looking forward to adding to my collection.
I am a big fan of BR and actually was old enough when it came out to drive to the theater and see it. While I cannot say that I am as well stocked as most of you are in props and replicas, I have my fair share and my collection continues to grow. I do have to admit that I didn't know any forums existed just about props, and I am just getting my feet wet -so please bear with me.
My most notable "BR" collectibles are the soundtracks (I know not props, but collectible and precious to me) I have some of the underground Vangelis versions that I have picked up in my many travels abroad-some not so go, some very near hi-fi quality.
So, with that I do actually have a question:
I am looking for a kit or replica of the BSG season one Blaster, I have already visited scifimodels.com but he is really swamped with orders and has stopped taking orders for the time being while he gets caught up. Any one out there with other sources? Or can you recommend a stand-up ebay seller? Not looking for dead on movie accurate, but close.
Thank you gentleman and I hope to make this site a daily visit! _________________ 5.1 GHz |

Rick,
Rob. That is all I know I do not know his last name.
As far as RPF...I lurk over there-read the 43 page manifesto, even tried to join, but they are not taking anyone. Lots of great info over there and I glean as much as I can, but as to the junkyard I cannot post and I didn't spot one for sale. But, I appreciate the point in the right direction.

You can order a season 1 from Dstines on ASAP (new BSG section), the guy from scifimodels & him work together and he has a separate set of molds and roto-casts them in resin. _________________ Wait; I'm having one of those things! You know; a headache with pictures? |

That's why it rang a bell. They both have been involved in recasting others work. |

So these actually are re-casts, who was the original maker? Am I stepping on anyones toes by buying this? -don't want to misbehave...

Sorry, I don't follow BSG....yet! Nor do I claim that particular blaster is a recast. Somone with a more initmate knowledge of the items they recast may know the origin. |

Unless I've got bad info, my understanding was that the guy who runs scifimodels cast a real FN five-seven and added the custom mortar-launcher for the season 2/3 pistol. This mold was also copied with permission by Dstines. As far as the season 1 goes its about the same story.
If that accusation is true; what goes around comes around I guess, as both of those kits are heavily recast on ebay. _________________ Wait; I'm having one of those things! You know; a headache with pictures? |

I have one of Matt's original miniseries versions and it's a masterpiece!
I also have one the Dstines' season 2, and it's not a recast of Matt's. Someone accused Rob (Scifimodels/Dreamland) of recasting to get his (that Dstines is using for the rotocast), but I don't remember who it was---it didn't seem to get much further than accusations as far as I recall. Considering the history.....
The Dstines is very affordable, but lacks the "layering" of sections that would make it look more realistic. If you want a real show piece, you'll need to do a lot of work on it. _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

Come on Rick, I put glitter on everything...lol Actually, it is how the stand came. You cannot beat gun stands for around $3.00 each... I dont care if they are neon green for that price, I will just repaint them
If anyone is interested, I will try and find the link to where I got them. _________________ www.propsummit.com
