I have yet to see a photo of the left side of the blaster in its current condition. I am told the white wires were replaced to allow the sight LEDs to work.
In this shot you can make out the wires going into the ammo clip.

sacrilege! those original cut wires were shown on screen!!
I recall Phil S. mentioning his sources stating there were two hero blasters. if so then maybe there is another one without the wires and with the slotscrew? just a thought _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

| Don't all the blaster photos show the same serial numbers for the revolver and the Steyr though? IF there were two heroes, it would be unlikely (and unlawful) they would have the same two serial numbers unless one was casted off the other. |

You can tell that the two guns, with and without the wire, are the same gun by the scratches on the bottom of the butt plate.
I went back to look at your photos Karl to see if the wires on the inside could be seen as they are in the picture above, But i don't think they are there.

Has anyone considered that Profiles or Jeff Walker may have simply bent the wires back and just tucked them into the ammo cartridge void? I don't think that would be altering it, just getting it more presentable without damaging any original or last-used features.
When I worked at Planet Hollywood and we sold things through Profiles, we were the ones that controlled any repairs or modifications to any original props. Things do break when glue gets brittle and we had quite a few weapons that had pyrotechnic / special effects rigging still attached with wires hanging. You try and conceal as much as you can to make things more "presentable" for a display, but many displays would still show tell-tale workings and attachments.
Regarding the archive photos, I recall seeing several production Polaroids of the hero blaster several years back, not sure if these are the same.

Well all I can tell you, is that the white wires are CUT on the blaster as it appeared in 2006. The cut ends are visible in my photos.
The cut ends are also visible in the hi-def screengrabs from the movie (the scene where Deckard is stalking along the wet wall).
The wires seen going into the bottom of the ammo clip (weged under the trigger guard) as seen in the new Profiles photo, are not visible on the photos I shot in 2006.
The wires can not have been bent back as they would have to have been as suggested by the new Profiles photo; they wouldn't reach.
I look forward to seeing the wires as they now look... as I say I have not seen photos of the left side of the gun in its current condition.

I think they may have extended or replaced the wires to connect the green LED's on the sight rod. There seems to have been a question with the wording in the auction listing about the Green LED's being turned on with the switch as well as the Red LED's. This seems more likely now.
The question now is if the wires are tucked behind the cylinder cover or still on top. If the wires are traced between the two areas, it looks like they may still be on the outside of the gun. Hopefully when it finally gets listed on Ebay it will also have more photos, including the other side.
On a humorous note. The cleaner version of the gun is making me feel uneasy after looking at Karl's pictures so closely. I have become fond of the "residue" from the set, that is no longer there. maybe not so much the rust, but the dust and whatever it was inside those checkers on the grip.

good point eltee. there can be only one!
I would assume the wires are left on the outside, otherwise they would be exposing that big ol' groove in the panel. I guess they didnt want to show images as it's the more uglier side of the blaster as those wires are a bit of an eyesoar. though you'd hope they kept them with it. _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. I looked at Karl's 2006/2009 comparison photo and noticed this:
I don't know it this is old-and-everyone-knows-about-it or if it is just my impression that these are the wires.

What groove? I will look at the WC pics again, but I don't see any groove, at least not anything that isn't in the stunts as well.
As far as the white wires in the WC pics, most of Karl's pics are not well lit showing that area, so it is possible, but I still can't find any proof of them. At least not as obvious as the PiH pictures.

Here are recent pics of the gun showing how the wires look now.
Hope this helps a little. I think there is a good chance that my earlier photo shows how the wires were routed in 2006, these photos show how they are routed today. |

Nice! thank you. So they WERE replaced. It also looks like somebody has some connections.
I kind of wish they left it as is, these wires aren't very neatly placed and glued as the others were. Again taking away some history of the gun.

I also bugged them today to put up some pics of the other side and they replied saying they would. maybe there's a chance of more photo requests
well yikes! they made a bit of a mess with those wires! it looked alot prettier with the cut ones hope they kept them so they could be re-attatched.
elfin knights implemented the groove in their prototype, though left it out on the production model. I'm guessing it's there to keep the wires in place and to stop them from sticking out:

eltee: I thought that at first, but then I realised it's a bit of glare on the trigger guards button head screw. _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

Here are some pics of the left side and the bottom:
I was hoping the restoration staff would have used aged (or artificially aged) wiring to keep with the weathered look of the gun. I imagine at the price it will go for that the new owner will be able to have that done if he/she so desires. |

I can't count what Elfin Knights did, but cool pics none the less.
From looking at the WC pics from different angles, the White wires do stick out enough that I never would have thought that there was more than just glue on either side of them. But when you realize that there are four wires, a very well hidden grove could be there. It would have to be much better hidden than the elfin knights version though.

Well, whoever installed the new wires did a half ass job IMHO. But still, new work has been done here, and whoever did it could probably tell us a few things about the parts and the functionality of the gun. They would have had to take it apart and do some cleaning and such.
I'm assuming at this point it's been made inert, and can no longer live fire.

Thanks for the great NEW pix Eltee!
So I see the white wires go into the gun at both ends... I never got that bottom angle of the sight rod, so I wasn't sure if the original white wires went into the rod, or into the body. Of course THAT could have been changed too...
Anyway here is another angle of the gun in its 2006 condition... you can see the white wires are cut, and there are no wires at all in the trigger guard area.
