Thanks joberg!

now here is a pic of the finished front strut with attached doors. Basically there is a pin in top of the strut, with a hole drilled in the gear well of the Nostromo. The struts are removable with the doors all in one unit... and a panel that is all four doors in closed position goes onto the gear well in flying configuration....

included is the next landing strut and its basic assembly... the large tubes are glued into the rings, then the small outrigger tubes are glue in... then the rings cut off leaving the large strut retainers around the tubing... last.. glue on the claws...

Thank you very much for the kind words guys...

here is more work I did last night and today,...I focused mostly on the aft part of the ship, installing flaps and more details. The hand-cut details numbered in the hundred when I took a break from this model and now most likely are in the thousands.

Today I added even more details to the Nostromo in a composite pattern while watching ALIEN for approximately 6 hours straight (although I must admit I did watch "OUTLAND")

So now we have an over 90% completed Nostromo model based on the A.E.F. original kit and all of the new molds and reworking of part. I think I will stop at this point in redoing anything, because this is such a complex model, one could go on forever re-working parts and details, and at this point I have come to realize this is not such a simple kit to assemble like an off-the-shelf snap together kit. I wish I could sell it for less, but the work involved just to cast each kit it mind boggling, and one can only cast a certain level of detail and size before it is considered impractical.

The way I see it, ....a few select true believers want a Nostromo..(there are always Halcyon kits on ebay) and are willing enough to take on this project, and the model itself is a unique and large kit that is not available anywhere else.

Here are a few photos' I snapped tonight to document the aft part of the ship. I have the top docking module just resting on the hull, so it may be not straight,.......

This is a fun project, and I am glad this is almost finished !!!

WOW, JT, it looks soooo close to the real thing now !!!

Shocked

It's true what you say about the great amount of details seen on this ship, and I totaly agree with what you say above : You'll have to stop adding more wiggets on your model at a certain point... I guess the mental health of the builder is in the balance at a certain point in the building process of this "kit" !

This to say I'm personaly very happy to have you on this board, your craftmanship really adds a lot to this A L I E N section !

Well done, mate !!!

Fred

Very well done JTP!! Looks great...I know I'm speaking for all builders here but it's always a difficult balance between too much details and not enough. Ahh, the life of a model-maker

JJ - Could you take a picture of you holding your Nostromo finished and post it here? Would really illustrate just how large your kit actually is. Cheers Darren Very Happy Very Happy

THANKS GUYS!

yeah Gaffe, that is actually a hilarious shot... I just took it as a joke and it actually came out decent... HA HA!! When the model is completely finished I am going to take a ton of reference pictures.. I will be sad to see it go, but at least it is going to where it will be appreciated..

JTP, just sent you a PM.

They have a "Oversized Insert Model Miniature Landing Gear" for sale at the moment.

Here's some reference shots, taken from the Propstore listing on their site.

http://www.propstore.com/products.htm?movieIdForm=7&productsKeywordSearchform=&pageNum=1&show_all_items_form=&isSubmitSearch=0&productCategoryIdForm=0&categoryIdForm=0&genreIdForm=0&productsSortType=0&recordsPerPage=15&isArchive=0&isNewAdditions=1

More pictures on there if anyone is interested.

Hopefully it's ok to post them.

After 3 more hours tonight of watching ALIEN on my 54-inch digital projector screen television with the "PAUSE" button on the remote at the ready I finalized the detailing on this side of the Nostromo, based on all three studio models. I am going to take joberg and skinjob66's advice. I cannot add anymore to make it look any better.

The remaining surface detailing will consist of slightly different hues of gray on the panels. for all practical purposes, this whole side is completely finished. All that remains is a final landing strut, and the interlock flaps on the other engine. airbrushing, painting the intakes and VTOL jump-jets, and scratch-building the final parts like front radar dish, docking corridor, and installing the bridge windows. Wow, I am surprised I am actually finished with this thing... it has been a long road since I started this a year ago....just wow...
