Hello Joan,

I wonder if you could explain how you did your screen capture project?

What software did you find that worked best?

There seems to be a lot of software out there, some free, some not. And I don't know which one to choose.

Thanks!

Tony

Hi Tony.

In fact i DON'T make any capture by hand.... More than a million images was produced from the 5 discs version of Final Cut edition. So... I decided to preserve my hands and mouse!!!!

The process involved several basic steps:

1. Decrypt content of each discs to be able to copy them to the hard disk drive.

2. Use a video converter with the snapshot feature embedded. I've used AVS Video Converter. This cheap and usefull app can convert any video to frame by frame snapshots, in PNG, JPG, etc. I've choosed PNG 24-bit to preserve maximum quality of each picture.

As results, a folder with more than 117.000 images was generated for each discs.... so.... be aware of loading time when you enter a folder such this!!!!

I managed this huge amount of files "out of folders" with batch scripts that split these large amounts of files into 10,000 files chunks.... each one in a new folder.

So... when I want to make a search, I need to enter each folder and browse thru 10,000 files each time. Not so tedious as seems. In fact, I renamed each folder as I need to use it... so next time I know the scenes that a particular folder holds.

The only requirements to replicate this process (in a PC) are:

1. A good decrypter, like Slysoft Any DVD HD edition. (http://www.slysoft.com/es/anydvdhd.html).
2. A video converter, as AVS Video Converter from Online Media Technologies Ltd., UK (http://www.avs4you.com).
3. 1,5Tb of free disk space... (each disk will need near 300Gb).
4. A lot of time processing (between 3-7 days at least)=.
5. Of course, a Blu-Ray drive!

Regards!
Joan

Thank you Joan for your help! Really complete information there.

Luckily I don't intend to capture the entire film, just portions relating to Deckard's apartment.

Very Happy

Well, you may do the same process as described, but first cutting the scene desired and then follow on.

Regards!
Joan

Well, that was fun. Started the screencaps and went to bed, letting it run. And in the morning my hard drive was full. So had some deleting to do!

Thanks again Joan.

I mentioned this point.... No action to take if you don't have 300Gb of free space or more!!! For each disk.... Razz
