I think adding the buttplate is a step back as it looks more like a Magnum without it… I’d keep it like your first drawing but make the barrel a bit shorter, the lack of a buttplate will automatically make the rest of the gun look bulkier. _________________ "That man is a head taller than me... that may change." |

agreed - I like the look of the grips w/o the buttplate, otherwise it just looks like a slightly larger/beefier version of the original blaster w/ no real sense of scale (unless they're sitting next to each other). I DO like the 3 led ammobox recommendation though! |

3 led clip looks great. Still needs some kind of external mechanical detail, especially now that the Weaver knob is gone. Shorter barrel good - adds to the beefiness. The grip still looks too small for the rest of the gun.

I appreciate all of the input but it's not my intention to turn this into a group design project! Maybe that angle should have it's own thread? _________________ Dave

What do those lights do anyway… would it make sense to add them arbitrarily to the design? _________________ "That man is a head taller than me... that may change." |

Ok,.. Here is a "down and dirty" photoshop version. Took your SW 50 and scaled OFFWORLD parts to fit.
I left the hammer on and trigger single as A .50 caliber most likely would only need one shot.
the below blaster is an OFFWORLD for scale.

Cant' wait to see the "real" version _________________ "No choice pal,..."

As Bwood mentioned I thought that this was a "give your imput on my project" kinda thread?...those are just suggestions (having fun trying different ideas & variations). If you include them into the final prop: good, if not: good also since it is your project after all.
The 3 LED are not only for balance but also for show of power: it's a Magnum people
As we all saw the all in black Tome Police gun it would be nice to just have a two-tone gun: black with just a few accent of plain steel/alu |

Instead of three round LED's ... perhaps two rectangular ones? _________________ 26354 |

It is good to see people actually read your posts Dave LOL.
If you want it might be worth it to start a new "Show off only thread". If you want I can split the thread too. Easiest might be just to ignore the Peanut Gallery though. Loving the concept so far, can't wait to see more, especially in 3D.

Yep, that's right, forget the Peanut Gallery and their imput/ideas...it's not important anyway: as long as youare happy with the final result |

Here are a couple of renderings of the 3D Magnum, work in progress. Everything is still in very rough form. The clip housing is only partially massed in, it doesn't show well but the main shape is almost entirely curved now, no flat surfaces. The design for the left side cover is also a departure from the hero. The right side cover is, as of now, just the rough cutting form from the Snubbie, resized and reproportioned to fit. But I'm planning to modify it from the hero cover as well, while still maintaining the overall aesthtic.
The grips and butt plate are just block forms at this point. I will probably sculpt the forms for real, to feel, rather than in the computer.
