While the pics of the hero show clearly what had been done (at the time) with the weapon, there's still the unknown surrounding the type of loading and blanks they used. Even the slotted screw has been changed (maybe lost during or after the movie) 
As for the venting, look closely at the movie, Harrison nor Shean are shooting more than one round (in every takes and behind the scene stuff, I didn't see more than the one shot).
If your barrel has just one round, as you know, the gases will disperse in the empty chamber/space left inside the gun (without forgetting the most important: the barrel itself).
Addressing the comment that most of us on this board are not familiar, nor pro handling/shooting/transforming guns for the Industry is somewhat of an elitist one at best; never think that a passionate individual doesn't do his/her homework concerning that passion. Well I did not say it was unsafe to fire blanks only unsafe to live rounds. That goes with most weapons used in the film industry since they were converted to use blanks only.
There is a big difference in the pressure ratings between blanks and live rounds. So for those who want to fire a live round through their BL Blaster several things would have to be done it compared to the Hero weapon. The gas pressure and un-burnt powder from a blank cartridge would go forward with some bleeding off through the gap between the cylinder and the barrel. If you fire a live round with a projectile then your pressure would be greater and more gas would bleed out of the gap between the cylinder and barrel at a higher velocity. That would be bad with those side plates on the weapon.
You can tell most gunsmiths that work in the film industry from those that don't. The ones that due have to basically rewire the brain to solve issues they come across make a weapon due something it was not meant to do and that is firing blanks and encasing them to look like some thing else like the BL Blaster. |

No offense here Phoenixent. We are just used to people coming in here with bold statements and nothing really to back them up. We also have more experienced people in here than you might think (many incognito, and industry people as well). All we ask for here though is proof. I am not doubting your experience or observations, I just think like many of us you still only have a partial story. Only coming from a different angle. Together we can put together an even fuller picture if you want to help.
I split this into a new thread to protect the originals focus on the hero build.

It's all good Andy.. I was just trying to show the differences between blanks and live rounds. I for one would never fire a BL Blaster with live rounds(with a bullet) unless the side plates were steel and it had strong mounting bosses on the receiver. |
