I'm not talking about the actual picture, thats easy, but actually making a proper polaroid version?
I'm attempting to dismantle a polaroid at the moment, and it ain't easy. lots of mess as in powder!
Just wondered if anyone had an easier way. |

I bought this from Whitefall. I don't know if he still does them. Couldn't deal with a nicer guy and a guy who does nicer props.

Is that a real polaroid bsgfan12?
I gave up on the dismantling thing as it was waaay too tricky to handle and just makin a mess, so the easiest solution was to stick the photo directly over the polaroid.
I printed it out using a proper photo printer and seperated the backing paper from the photo to make it thinner. I then painstakingly trimmed the edges so it would fit in tight to the edges of the polaroid borders and voila!

did you use an exposed or unexposed poloroid? Also you might just want to try experimenting with taking an actual picture of the image on your computer screen. |

As I understand it, Ben took a real polaroid and separated it to insert his copy of the picture and then sealed it back up. It's a real
polaroid "frame"

I know the photo isn't that great
The writing is a sticker he added with "property of Tyrell, LAPD etc."

Using a Polaroid police evidence camera you can probably make a 1:1 copy that will be done using actual Polaroid film. If someone has a clean print of the Zhora pic, I can try. |

It`s not important if the Polaroid is exposed or not.
I used a glossy thermosub print of Zhora and put it "under" the white border on top of the real image.
Open the white border carefully and slip-in the new image (a bit tricky).
The print should be just a bit smaller than the complete Polaroid including the white border, so you can`t feel the edge of the new image.
After placing the new image inside you can use a hair dryer to glue the border on the new photo - et voila
This one was my first try - the upper right corner is a bit damaged - after 2 more it works better

In case it's of any interest I posted this as a free paper prop over on PropCircle a while ago.

It is the image of Zhora from the 1080 version of BR, cleaned up and enhanced a little. I've put a polaroid frame around it so it looks okay if you just want to look at it without handling it. |

I am start a list to see who's interested in buying sets of my photos.
Forgive me, but if I give my source material away, I might as well give my pictures away too. I'm not averse to that, as you know. I've done it with everything so far. However my magazine covers and photos have an awful lot of my time invested.
Anyway, the discs will be out in a few months.
I hope this doesn't sound too mean. |

Kevin,
I know the time and effort you have put into these, you need to get something back for it. I for one am in on the whole package from you.

I'm interested in a set as well!
I happen to own a polaroid camera that was used to take photo's during make-up sessions for "Lost Boy's"...even own one of the original shot's of Kiefer taken in his Vamp Make-up...anyway, knowing this has made me a little hesitant to take it out of the box but it's projects like this that make me want to! |

pulseriflefan: yep thats the way to do it
kevin: I noticed that alot of the HD reference I've managed to get hold of show some signs of compression. Seeing that the blue-ray or hd versions will have a much crisper, less compressed picture than the avi fils of the current HD versions, I was wondering if you plan to re-do your photos when you get hold of the special editions? |

I am obviously, as I said before, keen to have the best set of photo replicas I can. If the Blu-Ray version I have on order offers me better detail then I shall use that.
The 15gb 1080 version I currently have access to has a beautiful picture quality and doesn't show much evidence of video compression at all. The worst of the four photos is the picture of the sleeping Zhora. I have done a lot (a lot) of work on all of the photos. I didn't simply crop and stretch them, if that's what you mean.
I shall take some photos of my photos (!) and post them here soon. Hopefully that might answer some questions. I am horribly busy at the moment. |

great! looking forward to that
I'll post some examples of my Rachel photo to show the compresion issues it's having. do you plan to include a rachel photo with the run?
One problem with HD and blue-ray is that capturing screen grabs isn't a simple case like a windows video file. I've been asking around and the only way you can do this is through an inbetween device to disable protection and an HD capture capture card for your PC.
Hopefully they will bring disk drives for the pc in the near future. |
