Posted: Tue Mar 04, 2008 2:05 am Post subject: Another bottle to identify |
|
|
In another thread, which I can't find (may have been on another forum. Sorry, don't remember), someone pointed out that, during the ESPER sequence, there were two different ESPER machines....one during the close-up shots, another one in medium shots.
There is another difference too. The bottles sitting near the ESPER machine also change between shots.
In the close-up the most noticeable are the two Johnny Walker bottles and another exotic looking bottle ( If you want to try to identify it, go ahead. It's nothing I'm going to get obsessed about. )
In the medium shot there is only one bottle sitting next to the ESPER.
That's the bottle I'm curious about.
Anyone got any ideas?
Also, if you count the bottle of JW that Deckard has in his lap, plus the two sitting next to the ESPER, that makes at least three open bottles of Johnny Walker in Deckard's apartment.
Do replicants get a discount on that stuff? |

I believe you are talking about this bottle which can be found on e-bay fairly easily if you search under "decorative bottle" :
I come across these filled with oil and herbs quite often at junk stores. They can also be found in different colored glass, green being most common.
You can also try searching under "Spanish Bottle".
The tricky thing with these though seems to be finding them in the 12" size, the one pictured is only 9". I believe the bottle pictured in BR is at least 12".
I haven't seen anyone dress one of these up to resemble the BR Bottle next to the Esper though...with a little work it could be quite cool!
Watch the out-takes from the new DVD Set. Deckards apartment is LITTERED with empty bottles. I never really got the "alchoholic" overtones they were going for in the original release but it's quite evident in the out-takes.

Well, it doesn't appear to be an exact match, but it's close enough to theorize that the prop masters took a bottle similar to it and dressed it up as a liquor bottle.
Wonder what kind of label they put on it?
No I'm not going to obsess about this bottle....again, just curious.
Thanks! |

I was doing a size comparison with the J.W.B., This one's a little closer:

Yes, that's a much closer match.
And where did you find pics of the bottle in question sitting next to the JW bottle?
You are truly Deckard-esque in your ability to detect and pursue bottles. |

BTW OB, what program do you use to make those photo-collages with the text notes? |

I don't want to speak for OB, but I would do it in PHOTOSHOP... This one is the greatest ever, it allows you to do everything.

I use an old version of PhotoImpact. It was free so I figure what the Hell...
SkinJob66 is undoubtedly correct, I hear great things about PhotoShop. |

Yeah Photoshop is one of the best programs out there. I use it for a variety of things from basic graphics work to full blown paintings. Not cheap, but well worth it. _________________

Good find!
That matches up really well.
We'll probably never get a good look at the label I'm afraid. A little creativity and some Illustrator magic should fix that.
There is also the possiblity that the label was, like the JW bottle, taken from an already existing bottle.

The good thing about this bottle is that you won't have to pay $300. or more for it on EBay.
I did a real quick version of the label in Photoshop....just the basic colors and shapes since that's all you can really see.
If they made their own label, were probably screwed when it comes to recreating it. If they used a a label from a real bottle we might be able to track it down.
I did a little image search:
I know, not real close....but it's the CLOSEST I could find. I'll do more searching here and there when I have time....whenever that will be. |

Snake,
Because of all the Asian related stuff you can find into BR, I think you should look for Chinese liquor or wine, instead...
Here is what I've found after a quick Google search :
It's Maotai, a chinese rice wine (at least, that's what I've understood). Their graphic design is pretty close to your "mysterious bottle" label... same colors and general idea, plus those bottle are currently available, keep in mind that the one that appears beside the ESPER is an early 80's one, the design of the brand could have change since then...
Try those on Google or eBay if you like (I will !) :
Maotai - Moutai - Mao Tai Jiu - Erguotou - Neigong Jiu - Wuliangye - Gao Liang Jiu - Du Gu Jiu - Fen Jiu - Hua Diao Jiu
PS: I've also looked for Japanese sake bottles, but their design is far more different than the Chinese ones... _________________ THE FUTURE IS A THING OF THE PAST

I thought I had another shot of that bottle somewhere but can't seem to find it right now. I'll keep looking around though.
However here are couple good screen caps of Deckards bar.

Are we suggesting this is LAPD issued booze? _________________
