Yes, Buch, you are most welcome. I hope it helps.
You bring a lot to this board. And when someone shares their efforts, both the successes and the "not quite's" we all learn something.
Cheers!

Thanks guys
All good things to those who... practice...?!.... or whatever...
Good news! With the absolute last of the old silicone I was able to do this very thin partial mold... It proves that it can be done... And more important, it shows that I can do it.... Optimism returned
I simply painted the silicone on with a brush in a very thin layer... Gave it time for the bubbles to rise to the surface, then poured in the rest very slowly.... This is the method I'll use when the new silicone arrives...

More good news! I got the new silicone from Germany, and results are good so far...
This is the product:
http://www.siliconesandmore.de/de/hoge-temperatuur-set.html
I made an impromptu vacuum chamber using a tupperware box and a vacuum cleaner... Didn't really think it would work, but it actually did... Bubbles came to the surface right away!
I let the casting cure on a reptile heat mat for 48 hours before demoulting....
Result is even better than before....
Even though it has a bit of tear near the bottom I'm going ahead with this mould and will try to do the pewter casting... I can always do a recasting if I'm not happy with it
The mould needs to be baked for 2-3 hours at 150 degrees C first.... _________________ Monsieur, azonnal kövessen engem bitte |

First pewter casting done! Result is better than expected
The casing funnel got casted into the badge, well, rookie mistake... But only one little detail is missing in this first take (lower left part)... So I'm optimistic!
The german silicone is really a great product!

I got some new and outstanding pewter from Germany, a really good quality... and I'm now able to do semi ok pewter castings...
But... sometimes you just reach a point in the process where you realize that things will never turn out the way you want them to... so I'm totally rebooting this project, I want something less bulky, something more elegant...
Well... back to the drawing board, I'm going to make a new mock up _________________ Monsieur, azonnal kövessen engem bitte |

Me too
Ok, guys, I need your opinion on HOW the "flames" on the original badge were done...
Lukafilm used (IIRC) epoxy glue mixed with powder to a paste, then drew the them with a piping bag...
I used epoxy putty and molded tiny strings which were applied...
But the outer edges of the flames on the original badge are sharp....
Could they have been made using a negative mold where the flares were pressed into the backing?!?
Any ideas??? _________________ Monsieur, azonnal kövessen engem bitte

Hi! Thanks
When I get a satisfying result, the answer is.... yes, but probably a small run I have started over, and trying new methods and designs. I got the "right" shape and dimensions on the badge, and is now experimenting with the text... Also think I might have found a way to make the "flames".... _________________ Monsieur, azonnal kövessen engem bitte |

Here's a few shots of the new mockup... Still a WIP... It's sleeker, shape and size is more accurate... I'm waiting for the bezels to arrive before I can start working on the flames....
